Take Root: A brand developed by my classmates and me. We are a team of nine Visual Communication Design students working with the Near West Community Association of Indianapolis. The Near West is an area just west of downtown Indianapolis that is rich with culture and history. Its many community assets lay the foundation for a quality-of-life plan that shows why the Near Westside is the up-and-coming place to live and work.

WHAT: 

Take Root’s goal is to help each of the four communities of Near West (Hawthorne, Haughville, We Care, and Stringtown) build and maintain gardens, cultivate their community relationships, and to facilitate and build a grassroots gardening program. This specific piece was developed to help the community keep in contact with their volunteers and to help keep their values and goals for working with the project in mind.

WHY:

This project helped give me the ability to solve communication problems and hone design fundamentals, including the skills of problem identification, research, information gathering, analysis, generation of alternative solutions, prototyping and user-testing, as well as evaluation of outcomes while working in a team environment.
